From Our #1 Top Recommended Abs Program - The Truth About Six Pack Abs...
You will discover the RIGHT way to do Cardio and how to stop wasting you time with exercises that don't work...
Let's talk about cardio! This isn't the same old stuff you're probably
used to..
I hate cardio. How about you? Is it really necessary to get in the best
shape of your life? Later, you'll see I'm not as against cardio as I'm
making it sound, just the way it's always been done.
A lot of fitness "experts", enthusiasts, or anyone who has ever tried to
lose stomach fat or get fit thinks they need to do "cardio" to get the
job done. No one will ever question them about it. I want to tell them
they're wrong! To prove my point, some of the most sculpted and
athletically built people (male and female) I know WON'T and DON'T do the
typical cardio exercises.
Can cardio be a good place to start for those who are considered obese or
really out of shape? Sure. But for even those people, other methods can
prove to be more effective.
Let's take a look at what cardio really is. You've seen people at the gym
who jump on machine - high or low impact like elliptical trainers,
treadmills, spinner or stationary bike - and shut their minds off while
listening to their ipods. These exercises known as 'traditional cardio'
makes you think if it's any coincidence that most people get tired of the
same mundane routine and stop going to the gym shortly after they joined?
But upon further examination, we find that cardio vascular exercises are
really any exercise events that builds a healthy heart and vascular
system. I'm not going to get too far into it since I'm not a doctor and
talk about stuff like VO2 max and the like. But to define cardio, if it
gets your heart pounding and breathing hard, well that's pretty much it.
Doesn't matter if you're doing squats with 300 pound weights and it's
normally called resistance training. You're still strengthening your
heart muscle and that's cardio.
Start by examining these exercises. To perform the clean and press, you
take a barbell, dumbbell, etc., and lift from the floor, up to your
shoulders and then above your head. You women shouldn't think of this
type of thing as a "man thing." You don't have to lift 200 pounds. Fifty
pounds may be really difficult and you will definitely make great
strides.
A lot of people think the clean and press is just for getting ripped and
only a strength conditioning exercise. If you want to have a different
perspective, try doing a difficult set of ten to fifteen repetitions with
the C and P. Your heart rate will more than likely be eighty to ninety
percent of you max heart rate if you used a challenging weight to begin
with. You might even feel like you just got done running the hundred yard
dash. Side note... if you really want to lose weight, interval sprints
does a WAY better job than jogging ever will!
Now take a dumbbell and do one arm swings and do twenty repetitions and
see if your heart isn't off to the races, legs barking, and lungs gulping
wind. Now try five mins. of squats (with just your own bodyweight - no
weights), leg lunges, and push ups. Take only a quick 10 second rest
in-between each exercise. You heart will feel like it's shaking down your
rib cage. Skin sweating like crazy. Sucking wind. Not for the faint of
heart, and not for the traditional cardio minded!
You are killing two birds with one stone! You ARE strength training. You
ARE doing cardio. You ARE building a strong and healthy heart. (That's
actually three birds, huh?! :)
Think of all the time this saves. You will get a great strength training
workout if you challenge your body with the right amount of weight and
get a top of your head to a tip of your toes whole body workout. You
can't do this on a treadmill or an elliptical machine. And by the way...
if you can concentrate on a magazine or tv while you're working out,
you're not working out hard enough and you're wasting your time. You will
not see the kind of results you could see if you do it the
non-traditional way of cardio.
